Mason Currey is the author of the Daily Rituals books, featuring brief profiles of the day-to-day working lives of more than 300 brilliant minds.
His third book, Making Art and Making a Living, delves into the myriad ways writers and artists through the ages have funded their creative work, whether through day jobs, family money, patronage arrangements, get-rich-quick schemes, or other artistic-financial maneuvers and misadventures.
Currey’s freelance writing has appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times, the Atlantic, the Guardian, the Wall Street Journal, and Slate, among other publications.
He lives in Los Angeles and writes Subtle Maneuvers, a twice-monthly newsletter on the creative process.
